Dec. 14: Central City Vision Public Forum

At 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 14, the City of Columbia will hold a Kick-Off event in City Hall to gather public input for future development in the city’s Central Neighborhoods including Downtown and Mizzou.

In its notice, the City and its planning consultant ask people to attend to share their experiences, concerns, and ideas about the neighborhoods’ future.

This event is city-sponsored and is not affiliated with CoMo Preservation. CoMo Preservation is publicizing this event because provides an opportunity to speak up about historic preservation.

CoMo Preservation is devoted to increasing awareness about the importance of historic preservation and providing information to help homeowners, landlords, and institutions preserve historic architecture. We believe the preservation of historic places and spaces provides Columbia residents, students, and visitors with a sense of place and contributes to our city’s continued economic success.

— CoMo Preservation kicked off its first membership drive in November. Memberships are $20. To celebrate CoMo Preservation's first membership opportunity, anyone who signs up for a membership before Dec. 31, 2023, will be acknowledged as a Founding Member. Sign up for membership here.

— On Tuesday, Dec. 19, CoMo Preservation will meet INSIDE the Broadway Diner. Starting at 7 p.m. owner Dave Johnson will talk about the history of the diner. Holiday treats will be provided. All CoMo Preservation are free and open to the public.

6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 in the Columbia Public Library: Chris Cady will share about the history of the Orr Street area at this CoMo Preservation meeting. NOTE: Starting in 2024, CoMo Preservation’s meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

CoMo Preservation is devoted to helping homeowners, landlords, and institutions preserve historic architecture. Original period styles might be replicated, but will forever lack the social history of authentic structures. The preservation of historic places and spaces gives people a sense of place and boosts Columbia’s economy.
