A Minute With Mustard-Model Bakery Musings
Join us as we sit down with Cindy Mustard, a 6th generation Boone Countian and who loves to share her knowledge and memories of Columbia's past.
Model Bakery resided at 21 N. Ninth St in downtown Columbia, MO from 1926 through the mid-1950s. The building is part of the North Ninth Street Historic District.
A special thank you to Cindy Mustard for sharing her memories with us!
Born in 1943, Cindy Mustard is a 6th generation Boone Countian and a member of the Conley family, a founding family that helped build both Columbia and the University of Missouri. Cindy attended the University of Missouri herself between 1962 and 1965. You may remember her by her 20 year career as the Executive Director of the Voluntary Action Center, or as co-owner of our very own Tiger Trolley Tours. Her accomplishments are endless and include Columbia Public Schools Foundation board of directors President, Athena Award from Women's Network, League of Women Voters citizen of the year, Chamber of Commerce citizen of the year, and she was recently inducted into the Boone County History & Culture Center Hall of Fame in 2022.
CoMo Preservation is devoted to helping homeowners, landlords, and institutions prevent the destruction of historic architecture. Original period styles might be replicated, but will forever lack the social history of authentic structures. The preservation of historic places and spaces is necessary for Columbia’s residents, students, and visitors to achieve a sense of place and also for our city’s continued economic success. If you would like to join us in our mission there are many ways to become involved including signing up for our newsletter, attending an event, joining our group, or donating monetarily.
