Make history: Become a member of CoMo Preservation

Become a member of CoMo Preservation now and make history. Membership is $20 a year and anyone who joins before Dec. 31, 2023, will be acknowledged as a Founding Member.

CoMo Preservation is Columbia’s only nonprofit dedicated to preserving Columbia’s unique historical architecture. We do this through education, advocacy, and restoration efforts. CoMo Preservation is dedicated to preserving the places and spaces you love.

The membership drive kicked off today, Monday, Nov. 20. In celebration of Giving Tuesday, if you join by Nov. 28, 2023, your name will be entered into a raffle for two books, Historic Movie Theaters of Columbia, and Iconic Restaurants of Columbia, Missouri.

Who are we and what do we do?

CoMo Preservation holds monthly meetings with speakers who offer insight into our historic places and spaces. We provide a website, blog, and Facebook page with information on local historic buildings, a mailing list to keep you informed about upcoming events, walking tours, and a calendar of area events related to history. The organization also supports the city’s Historic Preservation Commission, monitors demolitions, and wants to begin salvage operations and hold workshops.

On Nov. 28, Bruce Alspaugh will talk about the historic cemeteries in our newest park, John W. Alspaugh Park. On Dec. 19, we’ll meet inside the Broadway Diner, and owner Dave Johnson will describe the role this historic building played in an integration action in the 1960s. On Jan. 23, 2024, we’ll hear from Chris Cady to learn about the history of the Orr Street area.

Make history and join CoMo Preservation today.

CoMo Preservation is devoted to helping homeowners, landlords, and institutions prevent the destruction of historic architecture. Original period styles might be replicated, but will forever lack the social history of authentic structures. The preservation of historic places and spaces provides a sense of place and boosts Columbia’s economy. You can get involved by becoming a member, donating, signing up for our mailing list, attending an event, or volunteering.
